What’s new this month

Hello travellers!

This month I returned to my base in Chiang Mai after my European roadtrip and have been taking June slow, recovering after a hectic May!

In May I took 11 flights in 30 days so this month has been a good one to relax, work on my blog a little bit and keep up with the day job.

One post I finally got around to finishing was my digital nomad guide to Chiang Mai you can read here.

I’ve also been planning some travels for next month, so stayed tuned!

But first…

Topic of the month

Slovenia is a small country in central Europe that many people don’t have on their radar.

How wrong they are!

Slovenia is a country that I had driven through before, but had never explored properly. Does that count as a visit to the country? Probably not so I had to go back.

I crossed into Slovenia from Austria in the north and was blown away by the mountain ranges I saw and the beautiful lakes that were nestled between them. My first stops were Jasna Lake and Zelenci Lake near Triglav National Park.

Have you ever had such an amazing view for lunch!

I carried on driving to Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj, the largest lake in Slovenia. One of the great things about Slovenia is its compact size which means driving around on a roadtrip is very easily done as most of your trips will be a few hours at most.

I stayed at Skofja Loka, a charming town that I had no idea about but dates back to the year 973AD. I only stayed there because it had a hotel with car parking, but it was such a wonderful place to visit with no other tourists around.

I did a walking tour in the capital Ljubljana to discover the fascinating history of it.

Strangely, one of my favourite places in was a small town called Ptuj. Never heard of it? Neither had I! But my tour guide in Ljubljana was from there so I checked it out. And what a charming little town!

It is the oldest town in Slovenia and has a beautiful castle that overlooks the old town and river. It had cute cafes and an artsy scene that would be well worth exploring in more detail.

I’ve written a travel guide for Ptuj if you want more information on it.

One of the most, unique things I saw in Slovenia? The beer fountain in Zalec.

Unfortunately, I missed out on Maribor and Piran on the coast so I’ll have to go back to see them properly.

So if you want mountains, hiking, beautiful lakes, old towns, cute beaches, historic cities and all of it within a few hours of each other, you HAVE to visit Slovenia.

Deal of the month

I’ve got a list of the credit and debit cards I use when travelling.

And one of the most valuable ones I have is the American Express Gold Card.

Right now there is an offer of earning 35,000 Amex Reward Points as a welcome bonus if you sign up with this link before 21st July.

I’m not a financial person so please do you own research before taking out the card. This is an offer for my friends and family, which I consider you all to be! But earning those points has allowed me some very nice experiences including lounge access and upgrading some flights.

Keep travelling and look forward to next month when I’ll be talking about my secret destination I’ve just booked! Little hint, their music is taking the world by storm…

Safe travels,

Dan
