Why you must travel to New Zealand

What’s new this month
Hello travellers!
This month I’ve been on the move. A lot!
I’ve already taken 8 flights since I last sent an email out and visited 8 countries (sort of…). I’m actually writing this email whilst on the final flight of this month. The joys of being a digital nomad!
I flew from my base in Chiang Mai to Singapore to spend a few days before flying in business class for 14 hours back to London. (You can read about it here!) I then went to Paris for a day to see a friend, and have just completed a week long road trip around Central Europe.
I’ll admit that this trip was mostly done so that I could tick off a few more countries in Central Europe that I hadn’t been to. I hired a car and drove from Austria into Germany to Switzerland. I then stayed the night in Liechtenstein, drove back through Austria to Slovenia. I went back to Austria and from Vienna I took a day trip to Bratislava in Slovakia!

One of the beautiful small towns I visited in Slovenia
I’ll admit that I was incredibly tired at the end of it!
Six countries in a week and four of those were “new” countries to me.
I will have a lot of posts on this trip coming up but right not I need to have a rest before I start writing again!
I’ll have a lot more info on these destinations in future emails so stay tuned!
Topic of the month
I lived and worked in New Zealand for 3 years before Covid sent me packing.
I travelled all over the country whenever I could as it is one of the most beautiful countries in the world in my opinion. The country is made up of two islands which are very different in terms of culture and landscape. The North Island has a lot more Maori culture and some stunning volcanic landscapes. But the South Island has dramatic mountains that rise up to over 3000m, some of the best vineyards in the world and Queenstown which is the adventure capital of the country and the home of the commercial bungy jump.

Roys Peak, Wanaka
I was based in Franz Josef on the West Coast of the South Island. There is so much to do on the west coast even though it is a relatively rural area. The nature and hiking is incredible and a must visit if you’re into long distance hikes.
Where I lived in glacier country, are two of the most famous glaciers in the country, Franz Josef Glacier and Fox Glacier. If you’ve never been in a helicopter before, I highly recommend taking a helicopter flight over the glaciers to see the incredible rivers of ice from a unique angle.
You can also take a heli-hike which involves a short helicopter flight ONTO the glacier and then a 2 hour hike around the crevasses and ice structures of the glacier. It is truly an incredible experience you must do!

When I worked for a helicopter company
But I also love other towns and cities on the South Island such as Wanaka and its famous Roys Peak hike, or Queenstown, the adventure capital of New Zealand, and Christchurch, the largest city on the South Island that I actually love to visit!
New Zealand is so beautiful that the image at the top of this email (which is also on a lot of pages on my website), was taken from the top of a mountain in New Zealand!
Combine all of this dramatic scenery with some of the friendliest and most relaxed people you’ll ever meet it makes for an incredible travel destination. It is also one of the safest places I have ever been! When I lived there, I never locked my front door or my car as I knew it would be safe and people were welcome over to your house any time.
